In an effort to stay in touch with their constituents and gather feedback for the remainder of the 2014 legislative session, Reps. Kevin Parker and Jeff Holy will travel home to Spokane to host a town hall meeting for residents from the 6th Legislative District. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, 2316 West 1st Avenue, in Browne’s Addition.

The two Representatives will take questions from constituents and discuss the progress of the legislative session as well as the success they’ve had thus far with legislative proposals that are still alive and moving through the process.

“I’m pleased my legislation to provide lifetime registration for intermittent-use trailers passed the House unanimously last week,” said Holy, R-Cheney.  “House Bill 1902 will make it more convenient for people who use their trailers to take the occasional trip to the dump or for summer trips to register them just once. The bill is now in the Senate for further consideration.”

Holy will also be able to discuss Cheney economic opportunities and, as a former Spokane police officer and detective, public safety proposals that are moving through Olympia.

Parker, who serves as the ranking Republican on the House Business and Financial Services Committee as well as the House Appropriations Committee, has been intensely involved in budget negotiations and is looking forward to hearing from residents and reporting on the status of the 2014 supplemental budget.  He also had two bills pass the House recently that would crack down on human trafficking and help the homeless find work.  Both passed the House with overwhelming support.

“We’ve had success so far this session by working collaboratively with legislators on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers,” said Parker.  “I’m looking forward to discussing these issues and more with the folks we represent in Olympia.”

No RSVP is required to attend the event, and members of the media are encouraged to attend and ask questions.

For residents who are unable to attend the traditional town hall meeting, the two Representatives will be offering residents a further way to keep in contact by hosting two upcoming telephone town halls.

“We really want folks to be able to attend our town hall on Saturday but we understand that it can be difficult, especially with the weather,” said Holy.  “These telephone town halls are a great way to get feedback from constituents who might otherwise be unable to engage us with their thoughts and concerns.”

“We’ve had great participation in the past when we’ve had these events,” said Parker.  “The dialogue we have with those back home truly does help us as we make decisions on behalf of 6th District residents.”
